Workshop: Presence/Absence – The point of balance between two opposites
The Pas de Dieux company is delighted to extend an invitation to you for the workshop featuring Leela Alaniz, titled “Presence/Absence – The point of balance between two opposites,” as a part of the Mime and Gesture Arts Biennial program, Paris, 2023.
The concept of the actor-dancer’s Presence-absence refers to a state in which the actor finds themselves not specifically focused on their thoughts, emotions, or actions.
Who is this actor-dancer, who is neither the one who thinks, nor the one who feels, nor the one who acts? How can we understand the individual who is present, who observes and acts while being absent?
This workshop will focus on the common thread of actions, exploring the bodily connections and causalities among them. Attention will be given to both parts of the body that are interconnected and even those that lack direct connections, relying instead on the power of imagination to discover their connections and reveal the meaning of these actions.

Leela Alaniz Resume:
Leela Alaniz, Brazilian born actress, director, actor trainer and Artistic Director of Paris-based theatre company Pas de Dieux. She has a Ph.D. in Theatre Practice and Research from Sorbonne Nouvelle University – Paris III. Leela is full time teacher at the Faculty of Performing Arts, School of Dance & Theatre, LASALLE College of the Arts, University of the Arts, Singapore.
