With Leela Alaniz.
Starting from the principle that the voice is a vital phenomenon and that it does not occur only in the vocal cords, one realizes the importance of engaging the whole body and the bodily vitality for the production of sound.
The spoken words, in turn, require intellectual attention, understanding the meaning of what is being said, as well as a connection with the imagination which must be constantly sparkling.
A third element must also be related to speech, the quality of emotions, which obviously are not separated from the body, on the contrary they give shape, energy and body rhythms.
This workshop aims, through a series of exercises/investigations, to work on the relationship between the body and the voice, the multiple vocal qualities linked to the sensations, emotions and images produced by the imagination and therefore embodied/vocalized.
Practical course:
* Exercises derived from Grotowskian Organic Lineage techniques and developed by Leela Alaniz over the past 25 years of research and practice.
– Opening of energy flow
– Rooting and energetic expansion
– Vital resonators
* Embodiment of the six fundamental passions: wonder, love, hate, desire, joy and sadness

The Body and the Masked Character of Commedia dell’Arte
During the workshop, we will explore the masked characters of the Commedia Dell’Arte through the study of their walks, voices, and energies: Arlequin, Colombine, Dottore, Pantalon, Capitan, Zanni, Brighela. Each of these characters will be the object of a personalized work of each student. In this fixed form, in the “interior”, lies a large creative space that will be uncovered and will permit each actor to create his Arlequin, his Capitan, her Colombine…
Each day, improvisation will take its special place. We will study the codes of acting specific to the Commedia and to the mask, as well as the construction of the storylines. These participants will create the intrigues and mysteries by relying on the physical form and the social functions of their masked characters, based on their proper imagination and their relations tied to the characters.
WORKSHOP PROGRAM
- Semi-mask: movement techniques, lecture and study • Fixed Type, Type/Countertype, Style, Attributes
- Corporeal Schema of the Character and the Physical Transformation of the Actor
- Technical Limitations as a Source of Creation

Workshop
Open for practitioners of any experience level, this intensive workshop will build on a base of foundational Decroux technique (solfege, walks, counterweights). We will examine the intersection of the working lexicons of Dramatic Corporeal Mime and Viewpoints training the relationship between whole body listening /responsiveness and purposeful behavior in training and practice, the dynamic opposition between control and spontaneity, and structured improvisational processes for instant ensemble and collective composition for the stage. The use of short text may be incorporated into the workshop.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS: FROM THE ORDINARY TO THE EXTRAORDINARY
Etienne Decroux asked his students to create new compositions, arranging ordinary movements—rotations, inclinations, and translations—into extraordinary combinations, phrasing quotidian movements in unexpected and captivating ways.
Our workshop guides the actor from first simple articulations through a creative process that finishes with a short composition.

BRINGING METAPHORS TO LIFE THROUGH CORPOREAL IMPROVISATION
MetaFora presents a form of improvisational theatre based on corporeal and vocal expression. Unlike the ‘battles’ that focus on virtuosic performance, the stage intensity result from the challenge of bringing to life a metaphor. In front of an audience, the actors/dancers/singers/musicians have only a few minutes to transport the audience into a poetic universe. Metaphor, “Meta” derives from the Greek meaning “across, and after,” and “phor” (pherō), meaning “I bear, carry”. “Metafora” is the Portuguese translation. While it carries the same sense as in English, “Meta” can also mean “goal” and “fora” mean “outside”. Thus, the goal of the metaphors is to stretch the boundaries of the imagination beyond the habitual and the mundane. It is going “in through the outdoor” according to Led Zeppelin. The event takes place in two parts: In the first part, a group of selected or “invited” performing artists play together based on random hat selection. In the second part, the “invited” performing artists improvise with volunteers of the public in duo, trios.
